In Victoria, wholesale solar feed-in tariffs have dropped significantly, while grid export limits on standard residential connections are frequently capped at 5kW per phase by network distributors (DNSPs). For homeowners with 10kW to 15kW rooftop solar arrays, self-consuming excess daytime kilowatt-hours is an attractive technical challenge.

However, ASIC miners represent continuous inductive and resistive electrical loads. Under Australian standard AS/NZS 3000 (Wiring Rules), continuous loads running for more than 3 hours must never exceed the continuous rated thermal capacity of the sub-circuit conductors and switchboard protection devices.

A standard 10A Australian GPO socket is rated for intermittent household appliance use. Running a 3,200W mining unit drawing 13.9 Amps continuously through a standard 10A socket will cause terminal overheating, melted socket faceplates, and serious fire hazards. A dedicated 15A or 20A industrial circuit with heavy 4.0mm² or 6.0mm² copper cabling and a Type C RCBO is required.

Furthermore, pairing miners with solar generation requires automated dynamic power scaling. Modern custom firmware allows low-voltage profile switching via API calls. When your solar inverter telemetry detects generation rising above 6kW, a simple local automation script commands the miner to scale from a 1,200W low-power profile to full 3,200W output, capturing clean local energy without drawing expensive peak grid power.
